Defenestration: For us it ends when we drown

04/10/08  ||  Euthanatos

Who in God’s bollocks is Defenestration? I didn’t know either until five minutes ago. UK band, and apparently they did drown, because this is their last recorded material. How about that? Supposedly the band was heavy metal, although I don’t really see where the metal fits into this. It was a female fronted band, and Gen Tasker’s vocals are anything but metal, sounding a lot more alternative than anything. True, she does scream aggressively at parts, but it’s a lot closer to screamo and your recent emo whatever crap than anything metal.

There are some riffs which remotely sound like metal, like in the beginning of “Going to Vancouver”, but if I had a gun to my head, I’d call this an alternative rock band. Other than that, the production is absolutely atrocious and if there’s anything to be thankful for, it’s for the fact that this is actually an EP/MCD with only six songs. The music is so tiring and repetitive, and the guitars sound so shitty it makes me want to slit my wrists, just like these guys were doing in the studio with their eyeliners and all.

You know what this sounds like? Leftovers and demos from an uninspired, never quite made it band. It’s probably what it really is when it comes down to the truth. I can safely say this is the worst thing I’ve laid my hands on here at GD. True, it’s admirable that Defenestration were way ahead of their time back in 2004, but who cares if what they were playing was ghastly music anyway? Bag it, zip it, trash it.

The cover: Actually the most interesting part of this release. Thanks for the fish!

1 pre-historic emo out of 10.
